HISTORY

The Department of Ceramics and Glass at Sakarya University was established in 1997 within the Faculty of Fine Arts and commenced its undergraduate education in 2000.

Within the Institute of Social Sciences, the Department of Ceramics and Glass (Major Art Program) launched its Master's Degree Program in 2009 and its Proficiency in Arts Program in 2024, thereby expanding its graduate education offerings.

As part of its international academic collaborations, the Department signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement in 2025 with Jingdezhen Ceramic University, one of China's leading higher education institutions specializing in ceramic education. The agreement covers student and academic staff mobility, co-supervision of graduate studies, collaborative research projects, and the organization of joint academic and artistic activities.

Building upon this collaboration, the Department was admitted as a member of The Ceramic Road International Ceramic Education Alliance (ICEA) in 2026. Established under the leadership of Jingdezhen Ceramic University, in collaboration with the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC) and the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum of Alfred University, the Alliance brings together distinguished institutions dedicated to ceramic education and research worldwide. Through this membership, the Department has become part of an international academic network in the field of ceramics.

Today, the Department offers undergraduate, master's, and Proficiency in Arts programs. Its academic staff consists of one professor, three associate professors, six lecturers, and two research assistants. Since its establishment, the Department has continued to advance its educational, research, and international academic collaboration activities.
